Bora Bora is an island of the Leeward Islands group of the Society archipelago in French Polynesia, a French overseas territory located in the Pacific Ocean.

The island is located about 230 kilometers northwest of Papeete (Tahiti), is surrounded by a lagoon bordered by a coral reef where some small islets, the motus, stand out. Inside this arch two peaks rise, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu, the latter with 727 m of altitude (the highest point of the island), reminiscent of a volcano in the meantime extinct. The original name of the island in the Tahitian language, Pora Pora, can be translated as born first.

Add to this the beauty of the island, which no one can deny is an aphrodisiac, and the little supply of nightly outdoor activities, and one has the perfect equation to state that a good percentage of the sexual intercourse that happens every day in the world are concentrated on this island.

But the island offers a number of attractions. It is all surrounded by motus (islets formed by corals), which leaves the waters almost standing and looking like blue lagoon, ideal for snorkeling or sports related to sails.

On land, you can get to know the whole island using any means of transportation, car, bicycle, scooter, or even on foot. There is only one asphalt road (well maintained, no holes) that surrounds the whole island. They are in total 32 kilometers.

For those who want more rides in the woods, it is advisable to rent a four wheel drive car to get on the rails. In the bush we can see the heritage that the Americans left in World War II. Under the pretext of protecting Polynesia (French territory) from Japanese soldiers, the Americans placed cannons and built bunkers on the island.

In addition to the danger of cyclones, which the natives say appear every 7 or 8 years, the inhabitants of Bora Bora also claim that the island is disappearing. They say that since its origin, by a volcanic eruption more than 4 million years ago, is sinking and will submerge in millions of years.

In Bora Bora the visitor finds tasty food that is part of their culture. One can taste marmalade made from exotic fruits, and seafood dishes made with a special blend that combines French and Polynesian cuisine.
It is common to find dishes that mix typical vegetables of the polynési, the "Uru", a tuber that is usually accompanied with fish or meat and other tubers, like taro or fafa, all of them tend to cook in a typical taitian, in buried furnaces, called of "ahima'a".
As for drinks, one can try cocktails like the Maitai (mixture of rum, cointreau and fresh pineapple) and Banana Coralia (composed of fresh bananas, lemon juice, strawberry syrup and coconut).
